S0E03 - The Bible Tells Me So

The Bible. For some, it is only a great piece of literature. For others the claim is more audacious: truth. Christian traditions, to one degree or another, regard the Bible as a reliable source of it. But in the face of critical scholarship, modern science, and historical discoveries, does the Bible really hold up? Like the creedal statements of the past, the Church has attempted to clarify its view of the Bible. While most would deem this act a necessity, others would say that it is a futile effort, one that has done more to separate Christians from the world instead of driving them to cultural engagement and transformation; one that has driven Christians from their faith in the Bible, its reliability, and its authority in their lives. Are both Christians and non-Christians treating the Bible as something it isn’t?

In early 2018, Black Panther was released to critical acclaim and box-office success. It’s no secret that the movie would have some statements to make besides telling an interesting story. And at this point in history, there’s no better time to make them. With the election of the 45th President of the United States, many saw this as the manifestation of an open wound already present on the soul of America: the pervasiveness of racism in American society. What significance does this superhero movie hold for our local congregations? How can churches engage with the ever increasing racial tempest present in our culture?

America is changing. What was once an overwhelmingly Christian population, has indeed diversified. Varying religious and non-religious groups have come to call the United States their home and have added their values to the American cultural milieu. This is our freedom of religion carried out. We now find ourselves in the most religiously diverse time in American history. As such, Christianity here in the States has been on a steady decline. No longer is the Bible the unwritten law of the land. What does it mean to work and live in an increasingly post-Christian society? How should the church view and engage with this cultural transition, and specifically how does this affect the life trajectory and career paths of Christians?

S0E0 - What is "Questions From The Pew"?

We’re here to address the intersection of our culture and the church, which is made incarnate by the folks who populate church pews every Sunday across the nation. Here at “Questions from the Pew”, we believe in creativity within orthodoxy. Not only can we identify the questions that arise from our culture, but we can readily engage with them in both an intellectually and theologically honest manner. Too long has the Church shied away from grappling with tough questions and nuanced issues. No longer.
